L&RCAA County and Open Clout Championship 2005.
On Sunday 23rd October the Bowmen of Rutland
hosted the Leicestershire and Rutland County Archery Association County and Open
Clout Championships at Casterton Community College, Great Casterton.
Seniors shot a FITA Clout and the Juniors shot a GNAS Clout
as FITA doesn't have any Junior distances. In Clout Archery adults shoot at a
flag at a distance of between 125 metres and 185 metres depending on gender and
bow type. Points are awarded for arrows within 15 metres of the flag. The
distances for the Juniors range from 80 yards to 140 yards. The weather was
mostly good, being overcast with occasional bright spells and a light wind.

Archers visiting the County set five new National Records
subject to ratification, they were Linda Gransby from Dunstable Bowmen, Peter
Sweetman from Stortford Archery Club and Adam Gregory from the Bowmen of Lyme.

The judges for the day were Regional Judge Jose Bigg and
Chrissie Mortlock, for Jose it was her final time of judging the clout as she
retires from judging at the end of the year.
Members of the Bowmen of Rutland also had a successful day
winning four County sections. Dick Mundy won the Gents Compound, Jill Gornall
won the Ladies Compound, Graham Jones won the Gents Recurve and Kirsty Davies
won the Junior Ladies Compound.
The day was organised by club members Pam and Bob Tonkin
with the help of other club members.
