Junior National Indoor Championships 2004.
The
Indoor Junior Nationals were held at Ryton-on-Dunsmore for the final time on
Sunday 12th December. Five of our Juniors entered but for various reasons only
one of them shot on the day. That was Gary McDonald who shot his longbow. He
shot a Portsmouth, 5 dozen arrows at a 60 cm target face at a distance of 20
yards.
I
spent some of the day at Ryton-on-Dunsmore learning how National Tournaments are
organised from Pam and Bob who are well known experts!! Once Gary and his Mum,
Denise had got over the shock of the size of the building and the number of
targets and archers, they settled into Gary’s normal shooting routine,
shooting, eating, scoring, and eating! (just like most of the Juniors that I
know!).
When
I left, Gary was doing well hitting the target with most of his arrows (a great
achievement for a longbow archer). Unfortunately I wasn’t there for the
presentations but Gary came second in the Boys Under 14 Longbow with an
excellent score of 308, 56 hits (yes only 4 misses) and 4 golds. The person in
first place scored 419 ( I would be pleased with that score) and third place
scored 104. Congratulations Gary, the Committee are very proud of your
achievement, keep up the good shooting.
Also
well done to Pam and Bob who ensured that the shoot ran smoothly, this was
commented on by a number of archers and their parents, also the results were out
before the raffle was completed, well done Bob!!
