Presentations at the A.G.M. 2005.

Last summer we shot our marathon international postal shoot with Bunbury archers in Australia, medals are awarded in the form of silver Leprechauns these were presented by Susan Custance who does the administration for the shoot, this time three of our members won, they were Chrissie Mortlock second in the Ladies Longbow, James Mortlock second in the Under 18 Boys Recurve and Steve Brown third in the Gents Longbow.

Jill Gornall presented the Classification Awards for the 2004 outdoor season. At the present time you are only awarded these once, for the first time that you achieve that classification irrespective of bow type. This year classification badges went to Julie Gregg Third Class, Michael O’Sullivan Third Class and Second Class, Alexandria Davies Third Class and Second Class, not to be out done by her sister Kirsty Davies Third Class and Second Class, Mum wasn’t going to be left out so she went one better Anne Davies Third Class, Second Class and First Class, but Dad had to do even better Alan Davies Third Class, Second Class, First Class and Bowman, well done Alan a great achievement for your first full year of archery. Jill very quietly announced one more award to herself for Second Class and First Class, WELL DONE JILL. Congratulations to all of you, keep up the good shooting in 2005.

Jill’s embarrassment then continued as she announced The GNAS Handicap Improvement Medal winners, there is a medal for Seniors and Juniors, GNAS set the criteria for the awarding of these medals, sadly none of the Juniors met the criteria this year so the Junior medal is not awarded this year. But the Senior medal went to Jill.

Jill then announced the winners of the Club Summer League, the Junior winner was Alex Asher, as this is based on handicap adjusted scores the Senior winner was no surprise as she had improved her handicap by the greatest amount during the year, well done Jill, she was eager to point out that all the scores for the League had been checked by a second Committee member!

Each year the club presents The Silver Arrow this beautiful award was inaugurated in 1993 and is awarded annually to a member (or members) considered to have given loyal and outstanding service – in whatever capacity – to the Bowmen of Rutland. Susan announced, “This year it is awarded to a couple that have been members of the club for many years.  A brief sabbatical was taken but to our benefit, they re-joined us.  Their input and experience has been invaluable.  They will do anything for the benefit of the club if they are asked!   For the interest of everyone, including the recipients, I had to look into the club archives for confirmation of their first appearance and I quote:

Eighth AGM of the Bowmen of Rutland held Thursday 1st September1983 - Present a certain Mr Mundy.”

Dick (and Kaye) – 22 years seems rather a long time to wait …… but we are delighted to honour you both and thank you for your help and friendship to the Bowmen of Rutland.” As Susan read out the citation I could see Dick and Kaye’s faces as it dawned on them that they were the worthy recipients, I think I can report that they were amazed and delighted to receive this award. Congratulations to you both!

Well done to all the winners and good shooting for this forthcoming season. Many thanks especially to Jill who spends hours working out handicaps and club leagues, your work is greatly appreciated by the members. Remember to give in your scores to keep her busy for another year!!
